Interlibrary Loan

We have a very large collection of print and electronic books as well as full-text articles. If we do not hold the item you need, we can request it from another library through our Interlibrary Loan service.

Important Notice: Interlibrary Loan (ILL) System Downtime

Please be advised that our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) system will be temporarily unavailable during the winter break from December 16th to January 2nd. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

All ILL requests will be processed on January 2nd.

What is Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

                                                                  

 

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a valuable service that allows you to borrow materials from other libraries when they are not available in our collection. 

Items that you can Request:

  • Print Books
  • Research Articles or Book Chapters
  • CDs/LPs/musical scores
  • Dissertations

Guidelines

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Services 

  1. Eligibility:

    • ILL services are available to faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students of Athens State University.
    • Limited privileges are offered to patrons with a valid Athens Library Community user for a fee.
  2. Material Requests:

    • ILL locates and provides access to materials not available at the Athens State University Library.
    • Requests may be made for physical books, book chapters, and articles only.
    • Prior to requesting, verify material availability through OneSearch on the library website.
  3. Application Process:

    • Use the Article Request Form or Book Request Form.
    • Incomplete requests will be followed up by ILL personnel.
  4. Delivery Time:

    • Physical materials usually take 1 to 2 weeks to receive.
    • Electronic materials (copies) generally take less than a week.
    • For time-sensitive requests, delivery dates are set by the lending library.
  5. Distance Education Students
    • Distance Education Students are able to request for books to be sent to their homes by USPS Library Mail.
      • Distance Education Students are eligible for this service if they live outside the 40-mile radius.
  6. Material Pickup:

    • Patrons are notified via email when the requested material arrives.
    • Promptly pick up items at the Information Desk upon notification.
    • Notify ILL if the material is no longer needed.
  7. Personal Retrieval:

    • Consider retrieving items personally from libraries within a 40-mile radius of Athens State for convenience.
  8. Contacting ILL:

    • Wait at least a week after submission before checking with the Interlibrary Loan office about your request.
