Overview
Students enrolled in Biology 301 and 302 may borrow a Biology kit at the Kares Library Information Desk.
Limits & Availability
- The kits can only be checked out by currently enrolled Athens State University students enrolled in Biology 301 & 302.
- The kits are for a 3 month check out period, where the materials will be used at home by the student.
- Kits will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. They cannot be reserved ahead of time.
- An eligible patron is allowed to borrow one kit at a time.
- Patrons with Library Holds on their accounts are ineligible to use this service. Student must clear all university related holds before being allowed to check out a kit.
Loan Period & Renewal
- The load period for each kit is up to 3 months.
- All loaned kits must be returned to Kares Library on or before their due date.
- The borrower must return the kit with all accessories. All items in the kit should be cleaned prior to returning.
- No renewals are available for the kits.
- If the borrower withdraws/drops the course, the kit must be returned within three (3) weeks after official withdrawal from the course.
Fines & Liability
- Any kit that is removed from the library or not returned on or before the due date will be charged a full replacement fee of $2135 to replace all equipment in the kit.
- A patron’s library privileges may be removed for one semester if the patron fails to return loaned equipment by the due time or leaves before the check-in procedure is complete.
- The borrower is responsible for the safe return of all equipment. The library will not be responsible for lost or stolen items once the kit leaves the building.
- The borrower is responsible for making sure the equipment is in working order and without physical damage when it is checked out. The library is responsible for making sure the equipment is in working order and without physical damage when it is checked in.
- The borrower has full responsibility and fiscal liability for all replacement costs associated with loss or damage to the kit components during the period it is checked out. The borrower will be charged for replacement of any components that are not functioning when the kit is returned.
- All communication regarding lost, stolen, or damaged items will be through conducted via university email.

Troubleshooting Problems & Questions
- If patrons experience problems with kit components or have questions, they should ask the professor teaching the course.
- The borrower will be fiscally responsible for any damage to the kit or its components on which he/she tries to troubleshoot problems.
