A collection of websites, videos, book-lists, and more that directly relate to Athens State University's USS research.

Slaveholding: Board of Trustees

This section is designed to provide information about university board of trustees members who were involved in chattel slavery.

Many of Athens State University's early board of trustee members amassed and saved money by using enslaved laborers. This money supported the infrastructure and operation of the institution as some of the largest enslavers in Limestone County donated acreage for the Athens Female Academy campus, financially supported the construction of Founders Hall, and sponsored scholarships for students.
